You can see the hypocaust here: warm air from the ovens was used to dry out the bricks before being fired.

Awkward but fascinating
Built to exploit the chemicals found in cliffs around the works (the yellow clay makes bricks that sustain much greater temperatures - ideal for kilns and furnaces). It’s a tricky descent and not really the place for young children or dogs. Great for photographers or those wanting some sturdy exercise as the route might prove a little challenging!
